What to Expect

Preparation

To prepare you for treatment, we will start with a free consultation at our office. Your provider will review your medical history, talk to you about your concerns and expectations from treatment and perform a simple physical exam. At least a week before treatment, patients should avoid direct sun exposure, chemical peels, skin resurfacing, blood-thinning medications and supplements and smoking. These things make the skin sensitive and can increase your risk of complications. 

Treatment

There is usually no need for a topical anesthetic for this treatment. Your provider will start by cleansing your skin before passing the handheld applicator over the skin. As the RF energy is delivered, you may sense mild and fleeting warmth. The cooling tip on the applicator will help keep you comfortable. The treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete, with most patients needing six to eight sessions spaced one to three weeks apart. 

Recovery

It’s normal to experience mild redness and swelling immediately after treatment. In fact, this is a good sign that the treatment has worked. This should fade within the first day. You can resume your day as usual post-treatment; however, it’s important to be gentle on your skin to get the best results. Avoid direct sun exposure, harsh skincare and intense physical activity.
